Health and safety

Safety is first. Therefore, In accordance with its duty of the Health & Safety at Work throughout the life of project in fulfilling its obligations to both employees and the public who may be affected by its activities, the Project Manager from contractor side is responsible. 

It is our aim to achieve a working environment which is free of work related accidents and ill-health and to this end we will pursue continuing improvements from year to year. 

In Health & Safety planning during construction phase enables us to assess following scopes:
  • Identify hazards in the workplace, assessing the risks related to them and implementing appropriate preventing and protective measures.
  • Providing and maintaining safe plant and work equipment. 
  • Establishing and enforcing safe methods of work. 
  • Recruiting, contracting and appointing personnel who have skills, abilities and competence commensurate with their role and level of responsibility.
  • Ensuring that tasks given to employees are within their skills, knowledge and ability to perform. 
  • Ensuring that technical competence is maintained through the provision of refresher training (inductive training) as appropriate. 
  • Promoting awareness of health & safety and of good practice through the effective communicate or relevant information. 
Furnishing sufficient funds needed to meet these objectives. All workers on their part are encouraged to contribute actively towards achieving at work environment, which is free of accidents and ill. 

BK Shrestha & Builders (BKSB) has committed the necessary resources of staff, money, and time to ensure that all persons on the worksite are protected from injury and illness hazards. BKSB will continue to review its safety and health policy to ensure that all employees know, understand, and support that policy. All management levels, with input from hourly employees, are urged to provide input and ideas for improvements to the policy. 

Everyone shall ensure that all visitors to the site, including contract and temporary labour, heavy equipment operators, heavy drivers and Subcontractors, have knowledge of site hazards applicable to them and how to protect themselves against those hazards, including emergency alarms and procedures. Management also ensures that these visitors do not introduce to the site hazards that can be prevented or that are not properly controlled. 

Safety and health shall be the top priority for every employee while performing any operation or activity. It is the intent of BKSB to comply with all laws concerning the operation of the business and the health and safety of our employees and the public. No one should ever perform an activity that is known to be unsafe or dangerous to their health. Everyone shall be proactive in detecting hazards, reporting dangerous conditions and controlling workplace hazards. 

Safety First Priority 
The safety of all employees is the first and foremost objective of BKSB. Prevention of occupational injuries and illnesses must be given precedence over any other objective. BKSB will provide all items and support all activities required to ensure the health and safety of all persons working or visiting BKSB facilities or any other site being managed by us. All employees have the primary responsibility for working safely which be reference herein is a condition of continued employment with BKSB. 

Individual Cooperation Necessary 
Working as partners with each individual employee, BKSB commits to achieving measurable, meaningful improvements in worker safety and health through the following blueprint: 
  • Through cooperation and respect, build an open and continuous communication channel amongst BKSB, subcontractors and each individual employee. 
  • Actively research, share and implement the best applicable safety and health programs available, which include technology, innovations and best practices that provide measurable improvement in worker safety and health. 
  • Continuously develop, build and share effective safety and health programs. 
  • With the help of individuals involved in specific activities, develop and build improved, effective, meaningful safety and health training programs specific enough for the trade, yet broad enough to be effective in every facet of the organization. 
  • Continue to recognize and promote worker safety and health excellence.
